He'll risk everything to save her.

Grizzly shifter, Bishop King, has two loves – sex and food. So when he meets Ava Lewis, a curvy redhead with the intoxicating scent of sex and chocolate, he knows he’s in trouble.

Ava’s looking for love, not a one night stand, and grizzly shifters don’t do relationships. It doesn’t matter how attracted she is to Bishop, or that every time she’s around him she loses her damn mind and ends up half-naked and in his arms. There’s no future for them and she wants her happily ever after.

But when Ava is targeted by an unstable shifter, Bishop’s vow to stay away from the beautiful, fragile woman is forgotten. Ava doesn’t want his help but Bishop’s grizzly wants her and he’ll stop at nothing to claim her – even if that means battling an ancient and powerful enemy.

It was two in the morning when she woke him with her screams. He rolled off the couch, a kink in his neck and his left leg asleep and stumbled toward her bedroom. His grizzly roared in confusion, and he soothed it as he limped into her room.

She screamed and thrashed in her bed, and he hurried over and sat down, grasping her shoulders and shaking her lightly. “Ava, honey, wake up. Wake up.”

She screamed again. His grizzly growled in dismay at the sound. Bishop pulled her into his arms, rubbing her back roughly and ignoring her flailing limbs. “Wake up, honey. You’re okay, wake up.”

She woke with a startled gasp and tried to arch her body away from him. He tightened his hold on her and kissed the top of her head. “It’s me, honey. It’s Bishop. You’re safe.”

“Bishop?” Her voice was thick with tears.

He kissed the top of her head again. “Yeah, baby. It’s me. You’re okay.”

She threw her arms around him and buried her face in his neck. “I was having a nightmare.”

“It’s okay. It’s over.”

“I was burning up, Bishop. I was burning up, and I couldn’t….”

She made a gasping moan, and he rubbed her back through her thin nightshirt. “You’re safe, baby. You’re safe with me.”

“Safe with you,” she repeated.

“That’s right.” He shifted her on his lap and continued to rub her back as she trembled against him. It took nearly fifteen minutes for her to stop shaking.

“Better?” he asked when she finally relaxed in his arms.

“Yes, thank you,” she said.

He started to ease her back to the bed, and she tightened her hold around his neck.

“Don’t leave me.” Fear laced her voice.

“I’m not. I’ll lie down with you until you fall asleep, okay?” he said.

“Okay.” She relaxed her grip and allowed him to place her on the bed. He climbed in beside her, and she plastered her body to his as he pulled up the quilt.

He wrapped his arms around her, and she snuggled into his chest.

“You have a comfortable bed,” he said.

She made a small, choked sound of laughter and stared at the way his calves and feet hung over the end. “It’s too small for you. I’m so sorry, Bishop.”

“Don’t be sorry, honey.” He kissed her forehead. “Close your eyes.”

“Don’t leave me, okay?” she said.

“I won’t.” He shifted onto his side and pulled her closer until every part of their bodies touched and then buried his face in her long hair. She stroked his bare chest with her soft hands for a few minutes before settling against him.

The insistent buzzing of her phone dragged Ava from her sleep. She squinted blearily at the phone before picking it up. “Hello?”

She rested her head on the warm chest below her and ran her fingers through the coarse hair as she closed her eyes again.

“I’m fine, Willow. I was just sleeping,” she mumbled.

There was a hard thigh between hers, and she made a contented moan as she rubbed her pelvis against it. The man beneath her made his own sound of contentment. She arched her back when his warm hands skimmed under her nightshirt and squeezed her ass.

“What? No, I’m fine. It’s what time?” She pressed her lips against his firm flesh before nipping experimentally at it.

He groaned, his hand tightening on her ass. He pressed his leg against her pussy, rubbing his hair-roughened thigh against her panties.

“Willow, why are you calling me?” She tried not to contain her irritation. His warm hands slid inside her panties and kneaded and rubbed her bare ass, and she made a soft moan. “No, I’m fine. I just…”

Ava’s eyes popped open. She struggled to sit up as she stared down at Bishop. His eyes were closed, and he bit his bottom lip before sliding his hand between her legs and touching the wet lips of her pussy.

“Bishop!” she gasped.

His eyes flew open, and he stared at her in confusion. “Ava? What’s wrong?”

She pulled at his arm as Willow spoke rapidly in her ear.

Ava cleared her throat. “Yes, he’s here with me. No, no, nothing’s wrong. I just couldn’t sleep last night, and Bishop came over and, uh, helped me sleep.”

She pushed her way out of his arms and rolled to her side of the bed as she blushed furiously. “No! Not like that, Willow! He just, he made me a drink and then I went to bed.”

Bishop sat up and pushed down the covers. He wore just a pair of briefs, and her eyes widened at the sizeable bulge between his legs before she forced herself to look away.

“Dammit!” Bishop suddenly shot to his feet and disappeared out of the room. She heard him fumbling around in the living room, and he cursed again when there was a loud thud.

“Bishop! Are you okay?” Ava glanced at the alarm clock. It was almost noon. She groaned and sat up, holding the covers up around her chest as Willow giggled like a madwoman in her ear.

“Fine.” He reappeared in the doorway, his t-shirt on inside out and his hair sticking up everywhere. “I gotta go, Ava. I’m late for work. Can you tell Willow I’m on my way into the office? I broke your chair, I’m sorry. I’ll buy you a new one, okay?”

“Don’t worry about it,” she said.

He ran his hands through his thick hair. “I’ll, uh, I’ll call you later.”

He left, and she collapsed on the bed with a harsh sigh.

“Ava? You there, or are you kissing Bishop goodbye?” Willow asked.

“Nothing happened, Willow,” she said.

“Oh really? Because there was a lot of moaning and groaning coming through the phone,” Willow said. “Did he sex you up last night to help you sleep or what?”

“No,” Ava said. “I asked him to come over to keep me company for a while. He volunteered to sleep on the couch, but then I had a nightmare, and he crawled into bed with me because I was afraid. Then you woke us up when you called.”

“Mal’s been trying to get a hold of Bishop all morning.” Willow laughed. “I can’t wait to tell him he didn’t answer his phone because he was in your bed.”

“Don’t you dare tell him, Willow,” Ava said. “Nothing happened. Do you hear me? Nothing happened.”

“Okay, okay. Don’t get your panties in a bunch. Wait – you are wearing panties, right? You didn’t give them to Bishop as, like, a trophy, did you?”

“I’m wearing underwear!” Ava said. “I swear to God, Willow Blossom Tanner, I’ll break your arm if you tell anyone about what you heard.”

Willow giggled. “Your secret is safe with me, honey.”

“Like hell it is,” she said.

“Listen, I’ve got to go. Are you feeling better?”

“Yes.”

She was actually. She had slept well last night, and she had Bishop to thank for it. She climbed out of bed and went into the bathroom, staring at herself in the mirror before groaning.

“What? What’s wrong?” Willow asked.

“Nothing.” She stared at the sleep wrinkles on her face and her crazy bedhead. “I look awful in the morning, and today is no exception.”

“I’m sure you have a lovely glow happening.” Willow laughed.

“Willow,” Ava said warningly.

“I have to go, honey. I love you! I’ll talk to you later.”

Willow ended the call, and Ava set her phone on the vanity before staring at herself in the mirror. “You idiot,” she said and reached for her toothbrush.
